Workshop Descriptions

1. Interviewing Techniques
Successfully handling an employment interview is a necessity for any job seeker.  Learn helpful tips and practice your interview skills in a supportive, realistic environment.

* Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class. 

2. Help For Existing Resumes
Have a resume and need it critiqued? Is your resume not getting the attention you want? Bring your resume on disk and hard copy and let us help you make it better. This class uses MS Word. Bring a copy of a job description for a job you wish to apply.  MUST HAVE BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS with resume on a disk, CD or Flash Drive, saved in WORD or Rich Text Format. Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class. Limited space available.

3. AARP WorkSearch
Job hunting can be intimidating at any age—especially if you haven’t been in the job market for a long time. If you have a plan, however, you’re much more likely to succeed.The WorkSearch Assessment System is a unique, easy-to-use online tool that helps mature workers select the right job based on interests, pertinent experience, and skills.  AARP staff will be available to guide you through this process. ***Tuition-paid assistance if age/incomc eligible.  Call AARP at 206-624-6698 for more informatin.

4.  Job Search & Training Resources
If you are seeking assistance with Job Search, Resumes, Cover Letters, Training information or other topics related to becoming employed, the WIA Program can help. At the end of each session, you will have the opportunity to start the enrollment process for the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Program.  *Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk prior to the class.

5.  Effective Resumes & Cover Letters
A winning resume and cover letter give you an edge in the job market. An effective resume is more than a work history. An effective resume and cover letter highlights and "advertises" your talents and experience. Learn how to develop effective resumes and cover letters with confidence by identifying, demonstrating and packaging the skills employers' value.  This workshop covers resume and cover letter formats, content, styles, and samples.  At the end of the class, you will be better prepared to write your own resume and cover letters or to revamp your existing resume and cover letters.  If you can, bring a copy of your paper resume for a quick critique.  This is not a computer-based class and you will not be creating/editing your resume during this workshop.  Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class.

6. Skills & Abilities Analysis
Skills and abilities are the building blocks of job success. Learn to identify, demonstrate and package with confidence the skills and personal qualities today's businesses desire. *Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class. Limited space available.

7. Job Search Skills for Emergency Unemployment Claimants
Looking for work in a tough job market can be challenging and often frustrating. Learn new strategies and techniques to invigorate your job search and begin your new Action Plan today!
No sign-up is required for this Workshop.

8. Budgeting & Financial Management
Can't save money for the future? Can't get out of debt? Determine your income, debts, and goals. Develop a plan to gain and keep control over your finances. Learn about thrifty shopping and bill consolidation. Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class, or call VOA at 425-259-3191 x13001.

9. Digital Literacy - Elevate America Program
The goal of this Digital Literacy Class is to introduce computer novices to basic computer features, concepts and terminology. Although there will be some lecture, the majority of the time students will be learning through hands-on experience. The primary aim of this workshop is to master skills that will allow the user to progress to Microsoft’s online classes. There is no charge for this introductory course or for the more advanced independent study courses available at Microsoft’s website. This course is complementary to the Windows and Office Basics Class also offered at WorkSource Everett and Lynnwood and described below. Designed for the new user, but everyone is welcome! Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class.

10. Windows and Office Basics – Elevate America Program
The Windows and Office Basics Class was designed to introduce the Windows operating system and Microsoft’s popular Office suite to those new to computers. This fundamental course will include giving commands using the keyboard and the mouse. Screen elements such as icons, the Taskbar and scrollbars will be explained. Windows will be minimized, maximized and restored. Files will be opened, saved and closed.  Designed for the new user, but everyone is welcome! Sign up at the 1st Floor Reception Desk on the day of the class.

11. Career Networking Club(CNC)
The CNC is a networking group for people looking for career choices and opportunities in Snohomish County. ALL JOB SEEKERS WELCOME! There is no cost to participate. This is a chance to meet and share your job skills and job search challenges with others. Visit a meeting and see if this group will work for you. There will be Guest Speakers covering topics such as: What Employers Want, How to Survive Financially While Job Hunting, Electronic Resumes, Reference Management and much more.  Sign up in the Workshop Room.

12. Introduction to WorkSource Services
The most difficult part of any job search may be taking the first step. In this interactive workshop, you will gain an understanding of the changing workplace and learn about community resources that can help.

13. Computer Basics
Designed for absolute beginners, but everyone is welcome! This class will introduce you to computers; teach you how to use basic computer hardware and common software programs like MS Word and the internet.

14. Commissioner Approved Training / Training Benefits (CAT / TB) Overview
Are you receiving Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits and interested in attending a full-time training program? Do you need job-related training to find work? Do you know where to find the ETPL? (Eligible Training Provider List) WorkSource can assist you in completing your CAT or CAT/TB application packet and provide the information you need to answer your UI questions related to training.
