AmeriCorps accomplishments applauded

The AmeriCorps motto is “getting things done.” When speaking about the 11 members of the Snohomish County WDC Julie Hougton, Program Coordinator, presents an AmeriCorps member Tara Reitan with a parting gift.AmeriCorps Program, it is more appropriate to say they got great things done. They put their idealism to work; they committed 11-months of their lives to their community; they each completed more than 1,700 hours of service; they sacrificed to help others; they increased the ability of more than 1,000 teens to find jobs, be leaders, and make positive life choices; and they were role models to all who surrounded them.

Our 11 AmeriCorps Program members did all of this with never-ending passion, enthusiasm, and grace. The members' accomplishments and positive attitudes are to be applauded.

The AmeriCorps Program class of 2005-2006 completed theirGraduating AmeriCorps members Natasha Hundley (left) and Gail Joubert (right) pose with AmeriCorps Program Coordinator Julie Houghton (center) year of national service on July 17, 2006. The team, along with the AmeriCorps Program Director and Program Coordinator, celebrated with a day at the Birch Bay Waterslides. It was a beautiful day filled with reminiscing, good cheer, and lots of water slide spills and thrills.

The celebration continued into the evening with a graduation ceremony at Forest Park, open to family, friends, and host site staff.  Snohomish County WDC Interim President Sue Ambler opened the ceremony by sharing words of encouragement as members move forward in their lives and careers. WDC Youth Program Manager Brad Garner commended the 6 members who are returning for another year of service, and congratulated the 5 members who are moving on further their education and careers. Host site supervisors shared kind words about their members. The ceremony closed with the Program AmeriCorps member Natasha Hundley smiles at her son Zeke at the AmeriCorps Program graduation ceremony. Natasha will be joining the WDC's AmeriCorps Program for a second year begining this fall.Director and Program Coordinator presenting recognition gifts, graduation certificates, and words of gratitude.
