Ninety
veterans served at 2006 Stand Down
On
May 25, 2006, the WorkSource Everett Veterans
Employment and Training Services (VETS) unit hosted its third
annual Veterans Stand Down event. Held at the Washington Army
National Guard Armory in Everett, Stand Down is an annual fair
that offers information about employment, readjustment trauma
intervention, disability claims, retraining options, homeless
reintegration, accessing benefits, and community resources. Stand
Down is offered free of charge to active duty, National Guard,
reserve, and other veterans and spouses.
Stand
Down additionally offers services that cater to homeless
veterans, including free showers, hair cuts by volunteer students
of the Seattle Gene Juarez Academy, free dental care provided
by Northwest Medical Teams Mobile Dental Care, lunch provided
by Heavy's Barbeque, and personal care supplies including socks,
underwear, t-shirts, soap, toiletries, and flashlights.
This
year's Stand Down was a phenomenal success, in that:

were provided with Homeless Healthcare/Trauma Re-Adjustment
Assistance, |

10 Veterans Services Officers
disability claims were processed, |

10 veterans were provided with
Snohomish County Veterans Assistance fund services, |

11 veterans received Social
Security benefits counseling, |

12 homeless veterans received
free dental care, |

20 veterans were provided with
a Workforce Investment Act job-training assessment, |

20 veterans received benefits
counseling, |
| * |
40 veterans received hair cuts,

58 resumes were submitted by
veterans to the seven on-site employers present, and |

A total of 90 veterans
were served! |
